Meditation

I love this yet feel awful that I don't remember what book I got this from.
I remember being at the library months ago, stack of books beside me...
pulling my camera out and taking a pic of this page.

Anyways... it just puts very simply what meditation is and does.
Namaste

Watch your thoughts; they become words. Watch your words; they become actions. Watch your actions; they become habits. Watch your habits; they become character. Watch your character; for it becomes your destiny.

I'd be lyin' if I said I had never done any of these asanas.

Thanks to yoga I do them very rarely (and no I have never done the kicking cat). I'm an expert at the calm before the storm. And have been known to do the wiggling Matsyasana on occasion. haha...what about you?

Marilyn's been known for a lot of things..

A Sex symbol, a pop and cultural icon...

ahem- [clears throat-shhh..] her connection with the Kennedys. But maybe she connected her mind with her body as well on occasion? These pics have been floating around on the web so I thought I'd share. RIP Marilyn & Namaste

Elderly Couple of 62 Years plays piano

I LOVE the elderly and hope to be elderly myself one day!

They say there are two kinds of people.
"The elderly, and those who WILL be the elderly" -*if one is lucky.

Such wisdom... and on top of that, they sure know how to rock!

Alone much?

Most people who know me find me to be extremely extroverted and outgoing (which is true), yet the folks closest to me know just how much time I spend alone. It's quite a bit.

I am somebody who needs lots of alone time every single day. I am an early riser and that early morning quiet time alone I cherish soooo much.

Call me strange but I don't sleep in even on my days off, as my alone time/me time takes priority over sleeping-in any day of the week. I find it literally necessary for my well being. Like time spent on my mat, time alone restores me.

For me time spent alone gives me so much more to give others 'out there' in the world ;)

I can't recommend enough hangin' with yourself. Pencilling yourself in. Whether its time spent on your yoga mat, your meditation cushion, listening to tunes, taking a walk through a forest, a nice hot bath (those are just some of my favourite alone type things to do)

If you have children get a baby sitter or call a friend to take them off your hands for an hour.
Just do it.
I really like the girl in this video, Tanya Davis. Like Tanya says...time alone?
Embrace it

The Desiderata

Go placidly amid the noise and the haste,
and remember what peace there may be in silence.

As far as possible, without surrender,
be on good terms with all persons.
Speak your truth quietly and clearly;
and listen to others,
even to the dull and the ignorant;
they too have their story.
Avoid loud and aggressive persons;
they are vexatious to the spirit.

If you compare yourself with others,
you may become vain or bitter,
for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.
Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.
Keep interested in your own career, however humble;
it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.

Exercise caution in your business affairs,
for the world is full of trickery.
But let this not blind you to what virtue there is;
many persons strive for high ideals,
and everywhere life is full of heroism.
Be yourself. Especially do not feign affection.
Neither be cynical about love,
for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment,
it is as perennial as the grass.

Take kindly the counsel of the years,
gracefully surrendering the things of youth.
Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune.
But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings.
Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.

Beyond a wholesome discipline,
be gentle with yourself.
You are a child of the universe
no less than the trees and the stars;
you have a right to be here.
And whether or not it is clear to you,
no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.

Therefore be at peace with God,
whatever you conceive him to be.
And whatever your labors and aspirations,
in the noisy confusion of life,
keep peace in your soul.

With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams,
it is still a beautiful world.
Be cheerful. Strive to be happy.

The Desiderata would have to be my favourite poem of all time. I even used to listen to it spoken on vinyl as a child (and even at times as an adult) Yes, I am a child of the 60's...
I have been a collector of poetry and of quotes my entire life yet there is just something about the Desiderata. So beautiful. So simple. So wise and so true. And somehow comforting during rough times.

It has a bit of a confused history but this much we do know...
It was written by Max Ehrmann in the 1920's.
