Don't know of any better birth preparation than yoga

The practice involves not just exercise but mindfulness as well, opening both your body and mind to what lies ahead. A study of 74 first-time mothers in Thailand found that those who did prenatal yoga experienced less pain and a shorter labour.

More reasons to get off our chairs and onto our mats.

We know what sitting does to our hips and back (and in turn our knees, neck, shoulders and mood) but the rest of it is pretty scary too! I know personally speaking that I have never sat as much in my life as I have the past few years (and as much as I hate to admit it it is getting worse with each year that passes)!
And our lovely weather doesn't help either at times sigh..

Well, thank goodness for yoga. It undoes all the damage caused by sitting. Bottom line is? Just move. Interrupt the sitting as often as you can.

See you at yoga and we'll chase the sitting blues away together
Registration is on now, and all new Roundhouse sessions are about to start next week.

Prenatal Yoga is Tues and/or Thurs 545pm-715pm
Baby and Me Yoga is Thurs from 1230pm-2pm

Ever think of studying with one teacher for a while?

My class prices are as inexpensive as my wonderful programmers and myself can make them, and therefore they are like a Groupon every day of the week.

I have both daytime and night-time classes for everybody, including Prenatal Yoga & Baby and Me Yoga for the sweet mamma's in my world.

If you have been thinking of taking up yoga and don't know where to start, registration is on now for ALL classes with me at both The Roundhouse (corner of Davie St & Pacific) and Mt.Pleasant (Main & Broadway). If a session has already begun the price is pro-rated so the class/classes will be deducted.

If you are looking for completely non-threatening classes where you can challenge yourself as much, or as little as you like (provided you are not injured) come and see me.

My classes are not trendy or mystical, but I can promise you that yoga can change your life in more ways then you can ever imagine. Even if you just want to stretch out those tight hamstrings and dump some stress, Or if you want to feel more fluid, get stronger, build endurance, ditch the aches and pains, or improve your golf game...

Whatever it is for you, you will be wondering how you survived without yoga for so long. And thats just the promise of yoga.

My classes are just real people practicing yoga so if you have been afraid and intimidated by all "this yoga stuff" just come to yoga already

There is lot's of fancy yoga out there which is wonderful, but if you are looking for Traditional Hatha Yoga with lot's of variations and Pranayam (always with some vinyasa and some y delicious yin thrown in) come and see me.

Yoga will help to bring you back into balance on all levels. To me, even just one yoga class equals a day at the spa (and yes, I have had my share of days at the spa, and they are lovely!)

Hope to see you very soon. Again, if you are injured you should not be practicing yoga or anything that requires movement without a Doctors ok.

I hope to see you soon! There is a mat with your name all over it. Just bring yourself.

For my schedule look to the top right corner of this blog under Current Yoga Schedule. Namaste xx

Hi friends! Here are a few updates!

Hi friends!

I have a few different things going on that I'd like to share!

1. Shanti Uganda Fun "D" raiser:
Some of you may know that I am an Ambassador for The Shanti uganda Society. An organization I happen to care a great deal about. Website here

I am holding my first fundraiser in my neighborhood on Saturday March 12 from 7-10pm at Our Town Coffee at the corner of Broadway and Kingsway (1 block e of Main St).
Details for the event can be found on my Facebook fan Page here or you could always email me at yoginilori@gmail.com

Hope you can swing by! I will have lot's of gorgeous jewelry and textiles on display lovingly made by the women in Shanti's income generating group (its the jewelry I wear all the time that many of you comment on)! I'll have a huge selection, and there will be live music too! Hollow Strangers and Paul Talbot have generously donated their time to entertain us (Our Town is also licensed for beer and wine as well).

This event is super casual. Feel free to stop by! I'd love to see you.

2. I will be putting a newsletter out very soon. This newsletter will only go out 4 times per year as reminders of new class sessions, freebies and events, and basically everyone on my email list will be getting one. Please know..you can opt out and unsubscribe anytime.

3. I will be giving a talk and Free Baby Yoga demo at The Roundhouse babies group this Thursday Feb 17 from 11am-12 noon in room C. Feel free to stick around for a full baby & me yoga class afterwards, same room..starting at 1230!

I can't believe The Briefing is just 5 days away!!

Heres the trailer for The 2011 Briefing at UBC.
Are you going? Can you go? I am so sad I can't go but I'll be there in spirit. I've got my yoga classes to teach that night, and I've never been one to miss those!

It takes place Tuesday January 25 from 5-8pm at UBC Woodward 2 and you can register here for a toonie, and make your voice heard!

It's called The UBC Dollar Project (click here for more info).

You can hear about 8 different community projects and vote for your favourite one! And YES Shanti Uganda is one of them! **click here for Shanti's site**

I love the whole concept so much. The fact that you can pay a dollar and make a HUGE impact in the world. Thats so beautiful to me.

And to me, just listening to the speakers and hearing their passion, while learning about the world around me and the various causes being discussed would be so fascinating to me. If you can go, go!

I can't wait to hear all about it! And being an Ambassador for the organization and feeling so passionately about it, I am rooting for The Shanti Uganda Society all the way! We need that fence asap, and every single bit helps! For more info on Shanti's Fence Project click here

To keep up with Shanti Uganda and all the good they do, and their various projects etc, you should sign up for their newsletter. Its lovely and will make you feel really, really good inside. much like yoga. Namaste.

Gosh I love this place. Have you been to the Roundhouse lately? Yoga with me is starting up again. Tonight!

I am so stoked about my Roundhouse classes starting up again this evening! This year will mark 7 glorious years teaching at what I call, the coolest place in Yaletown for sooo many reasons. Yoga, dance, theatre, the staff...and the list goes on! All my classes are super casual, non threatening and affordable so come on down! You can find me there on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The cost of registration is pro-rated too, so if the session has already begun you can still register (or drop in too of course).
You save big by registering before or on the day of, and if you double up to attend twice per week there is a huge savings. (And of course all classes need the minimum number of registrants for the program to run, but luckily I don't seem to often have that problem). Namaste & I hope to see you tonight!
Prenatal Yoga Tues and Thurs 545pm-715pm.
Baby & me yoga Thurs from 1230pm-200pm
Mixed Levels Hatha Tues and Thurs 730pm-900pm.

going on 88 and a real inspiration

I love it when she says "when they say it can't be done i've got to do it." This woman is the perfect example of if you use it you "keep it" (as opposed to, "if you don't use it you lose it"). Lifetime learning, trying new things by pushing the evelope, and and moving her body through her her yoga practice and dance has clearly kept her balanced, vital, clear, and both strong and flexible in body and mind.

They say there are two kinds of people. The elderly, and those who will be elderly (if they livelong enough of course). This woman is lovely, though I'd share.

Just want to give a shout out the dads who have been coming to baby yoga lately

It takes a real man to come to baby and me yoga and I've been pleased to see a few lately at both Mt.Pleasant and The Roundhouse. It's yoga, and dad's need yoga too. There have been a few regulars over the years but not too many. Just wanted to make a little post to tell you how cool you are dads. I love my momma's but I love my baby daddies too! Feel free. I know that you will always be few and far between at baby yoga but know that you are more than welcome anytime.
Over the years I have had parents who have occasionally traded off with their partners as well. That is A OK. As long as there is room everyone is welcome. I have had grandparents, nannies, friends and aunties at baby yoga, and yes you are all welcome in my classes. There is simply not enough out there for the lovely men in our lives baby program-wise in my opinion. My baby and me programs are just that. Baby & me. Not strictly mom & baby and they never were. Just wanted to throw it out there. Namaste xo
