Lets face it... pregnancy isn't always the most physically "comfortable" experience right?

New 5 week session of Prenatal Yoga at Mount Pleasant starts up on Wed.

OR drop in for $12.  The session runs from Nov 21-Dec 19. Go to www.mountpleasantcc.ca or call 604-257-3080 (press 2). Class is located at 7th and Kingsway (Main and Broadway basically)

Wed doesn't work for ya? Don't forget Preantal Yoga at The Roundhouse Tues and Thurs nights from 545-715pm. The number there is 604-713-1800 (press 2)

Yoga is superior to all other forms of exercise during pregnancy (hands down).

If you came to any of my teacher workshops at the Yoga Conference last weekend I provided you with a TON of studies on yoga and its benefits to absolutely everyone. (Luckily there are hundreds of studies and I have spent weeks compiling them.) There are still lot's that I didn't include (on prenatal yoga specifically) and here are just a couple:

our yoga room at mount pleasant.

A study in the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine found that doing yoga while pregnant increased the odds of a healthy delivery. The 335 women studied added a yoga class during their second trimester; the result was higher birth weights and lower pregnancy-induced hypertension compared to non-yoga-practicing participants.

*Also Researchers from Boston University School of Medicine (BUSM) have found that yoga is superior to other forms of exercise in its positive effect on mood and anxiety.

I just added a testimonial link to the right of this post

Just spent the morning reading testimonials that people had written about time spent with me practicing yoga. Needless to say, I have a box of kleenex beside me! *sniff*

Testimonials from people from all different walks of life. Some of them momma's (pre and post natal), some of them dads, some athletes, grandparents, folks with limited mobility, children... and even peers and other teachers I admire greatly.

And the truth is... I didn't even know where to start I have so many!

I know that I am very vocal in telling people I care about "just what they mean to me" on a regular basis, but I want to tell you again.

You will never (in a million years) know what you all add to my life.

You ALL mean the world. To those I still see regularly, and to those of you who have moved on...I still think of you all the time.

*Yoga is still waiting for you if you have been on a break (nudge nudge wink wink)

I am so blessed to have known (and to still know) so many of you.

YOU have made my life more rich than I can ever say. Thank YOU so very much.

Happy September everybody!

Can't believe it's September already! No wonder I awoke with the above tune in my head!
(not kidding, I really did. I really was around when that song came out haha).
It's time for transitions of all kinds. Hectic schedules, cooler temperatures and shorter days are on the way for all of us.

Feels strange having the rest of the week off as we transition from our Summer sessions to Fall. I hope you'll remember to include your own self care in your fall plans/scheduling.
Fall is a time to turn inward, and you can not be available to anyone else in a healthy way if your needs aren't meant. Don't forget precious "you" time whether that includes a Yoga practice or something else.

Yoga-wise I have classes for absolutely everybody of every age and ability. Both during the day and in the evening starting next week at the Roundhouse and the following week at Mount Pleasant.

At The Roundhouse Arts and Community Centre-604-713-1800
Tues Sept 6 - Prenatal Yoga 5:45-7:15pm & Mixed Levels 7:30pm-9:00pm
Thurs Sept 8 - Baby and Me Yoga 12:30-2:00pm , Prenatal Yoga 5:45-715pm and *new* Yoga for Limited Mobility 7:30-8:30pm

Mon Sept 12- Baby and me Yoga 1045am-1215 and Daytime Yoga 1230-2pm
Wed Sept 14- Daytime Yoga 12:30-2:00pm and Prenatal Yoga 6:30-7:45pm

Thanks for a great summer!
Wishing you energy, vitality and health this fall & hope to see you on the mat!
(My Facebook Page Yoga with Lori Lucas can be found here and is updated daily as well).
Namaste xx

Don't know of any better birth preparation than yoga

The practice involves not just exercise but mindfulness as well, opening both your body and mind to what lies ahead. A study of 74 first-time mothers in Thailand found that those who did prenatal yoga experienced less pain and a shorter labour.

What a Good Doula really does...

Love everything this woman has to say! Its very important what she says about the pain/fear cycle, stress hormones AND working through issues before you arrive in the delivery room. Prenatal Yoga is without a doubt the ultimate in birth preparation. From keeping physical discomforts at bay and building the physical strength and endurance to birth a baby... to learning and practicing the breathwork (pranayama) to bring in energy, ease pain and maintain focus... the mental training is invaluable. And we practice it over and over (hence it being called a "yoga practice".) Learning to let go and relax "on purpose and at will" and the mindfulness training are tools that are absolutely priceless. Believe in yourself, find a Doula that you resonate with, and find a GOOD prenatal yoga class, and you too can have an empowering birth experience regardless of how things unfold. Find support and know that you really are supported in every single way. Because you really are. Namaste.

Gosh I love this place. Have you been to the Roundhouse lately? Yoga with me is starting up again. Tonight!

I am so stoked about my Roundhouse classes starting up again this evening! This year will mark 7 glorious years teaching at what I call, the coolest place in Yaletown for sooo many reasons. Yoga, dance, theatre, the staff...and the list goes on! All my classes are super casual, non threatening and affordable so come on down! You can find me there on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The cost of registration is pro-rated too, so if the session has already begun you can still register (or drop in too of course).
You save big by registering before or on the day of, and if you double up to attend twice per week there is a huge savings. (And of course all classes need the minimum number of registrants for the program to run, but luckily I don't seem to often have that problem). Namaste & I hope to see you tonight!

reflecting? i am.

Reflecting on this past year? The good and the not so good? Its a natural thing to do. We can all find lot's of things to be thankful for even through we can't escape challenges and hardships. Thankfully we all have each other and can ask for help when we need it. Happy new year to you! It's going to be a great year! I really hope to see you at yoga.

Quite simply, the way yoga spills out into our lives and relationships just makes everything else better. We are able to handle what life throws at us a lot better, and things just aren't quite as hard anymore. We slowly let go of things that are unhealthy for us/no longer serving us, without even trying. And we just feel better. We get rid of those aches and pains, we sleep better, are more fluid, and have greater range of motion. The list just goes on an on. Its the best self care I know of. It isn't going to solve all of our problems, but it is the one thing that keeps us in shape and balanced, yet doesn't take our energy away. It gives us energy, and peace and clarity at the same time.

I really hope to see you at yoga. All my classes are really affordable and even cheaper when you double up to attend twice per week (yoga shouldn't cost an arm and a leg), so register away!

I wanted to take this time to thank you all for your support and for just being you xoxo

2011 is going to be a great year! Plus I am in another teacher training right now and am learning lot's of new snazzy stuff! ;)

I've got a ferry to catch so better run! namaste & see you at yoga xo
