All my Mt.Pleasant classes resume starting today! Weee!

According to Cliff Arnall, a psychologist with the University of Cardiff in the United Kingdom, there are many factors that make Monday, Jan. 17 the worst day of 2011, but I'm not buyin' it! (and neither should you)!. There are plenty of reasons to smile today!

Todays the day that all my classes at Mt.Pleasant start up again officially! Yay! Its yoga bliss in our glorious neighborhood once again.

All classes are a go, and it's going to be a great session

Baby & Me Yoga: Its starts this morning (Mondays 1045-12-ish-generally a little longer) It's going to be very busy this morning. Today is the first day and I'll be there super early to set things up. Please keep in mind that the first class is a little hectic for the very young babies due to sounds in the room. (sometimes really new little babies get a little overly stimulated and extra fussy the first time they are in a room with other baby sounds) But they do chill out by the second class! And thats a guarantee. Don't worry, its all good, and super fun! And by the second class they are lovin' it:)

Prenatal Yoga: Busy as always but with a new bigger room! (right next door to the old room) New session starts Wed at 630. "If you can get there a little early (10 mins) it would be a big help. (if you can't, it's totally cool). It's just that I can't get in there until 615 to set up, and it too is a busy one. Oh, and the waiting list is gone and we've opened up more spaces! And due to the size of the room you can always drop in as well :)

Daytime Yoga (mixed levels hatha) starts again today as well at 1230! (1230-200 Mondays and Wednesdays). You can double up to attend both days and get a huge discount as well. Can't wait to see my regulars today and meet some new folks as well.

To register click here

Remember that at both Mt.Pleasant and The Roundhouse prices are pro rated so as long as theres room you can still register for the class of your choice at a big savings (meaning, the classes missed will of course be deducted from the price)

Ok, I've gotta fly! Giddy UP. See you on the mat xo

hurtin' for cash now that christmas is over?

Don't forget your local library. There are so many to choose from and the library has so much more than books. And it belongs to you and me! Sheer peace and enjoyment I always find at the library.

I spend a chunk out of each day studying, and personally I find there is no better place to do it than the library.

Came across this quote this morning and love it so thought I'd share.

"Libraries will get you through times of no money better than money will get you through times of no libraries"-Anne Herbert

It's official! My prices have come down. Yippie!

I was bummed with the HST, mainly because it meant that the prices would be going up on my classes. :(
As of right now prices for Mixed Levels and Prenatal Yoga at the Roundhouse have dropped! Its a done deal. (Not that they were ever expensive..)
It is just important to me to keep yoga affordable. Yoga is for everybody. I mean its only Yoga!

Registration is on at both places for all classes starting up again in January.
The biggest savings are when you double up and attend twice per week, although the savings are for individual classes, as well as the drop in price.
Namaste. See you on the mat

I love love love my computers. But their impact on the world? not so much..

Lets face it... none of us are going to give up our computers! But it's good to know some facts and ways to lessen their (and our) impact on the environment. And we'll save money too! Yippie!
I was surprised a a lot of this stuff so decided to share.
(all these facts taken from a cute little book simply called "how to reduce your carbon footprint" -by joanna yarrow)

Some sad facts are:
-The IT industry accounts for 2% of CO2 emissions which is the same as aviation
-Over 31 million PC's are thrown away worldwide each year.
-The average PC takes around 2 tons of chemicals, fossil fuels, and water to produce, generates around 220 lb of CO2 per year, and is junked after 3 years.
-The plastic alone in each PC requires nearly 2 gallons of crude oil to make
-It's estimated that an average PC is in use for 4 hours each work day and idle for 5-6 hrs
-If you leave your computer on overnight you'll waste enough energy to laser print around 800 pages
-Only about 15% of the 250 billion -worth of power used by computers worldwide each year is spent actually computing-the rest is wasted while idling.

Some tips I just learned this morning are:
-If you need a desktop choosing one with a flat LCD (liquid crystal display) screen uses about 30% less energy than cathoderay monitors.
-Laptop computers consume up to 90% less energy than a desktop
-If you upgrade your existing computer instead of buying a new one, you could save around 500lb of fossil fuel.
-If you set your computer to enter power saving mode after 10 minutes of inactivity-this could cut its energy use by 60-70%
-Its best to shut off the computer if we aren't using it for a hour or two- it's a myth that computers use a lot of power to start up.

Namaste fellow yogi's!

Are you addicted to groupon?

I know there is groupon, swarmjam, and some others, and it's fabulous to be able to save some cash these days anyway we possibly can. I don't know too many people who aren't looking for ways to save money.
I sure am! Especially since the HST came into play!

**There is a new local group buying one called Ethical Deal. They have daily deals from local GREEN companies! It looks like the best one of them all. We can save money and not hurt the planet, and shop local! (it is Vancouver based)
The website is here

As far as yoga goes, it should never cost a fortune in my opinion, and thats why the cost of my classes are like groupon everyday. The cost of my classes on a regular basis are as inexpensive as I am allowed to make them. $9-$13 a class when you register and just a little more if you drop in.
(*And registration is on for January btw!)

Happy Ethical shopping and I'll see you on the mat! ♥. ♥ .♥. ♥ .

CBC News - British Columbia - VIDEO: Parents should save receipts for children's tax credits

CBC News - British Columbia - VIDEO: Parents should save receipts for children's tax credits

Not really one to post news stories to my blog but this news is worth sharing (click the blue link above). If you have children and live in this "very costly city" I hope you are getting all of your child tax deductions (which include the parents of the children who come to my kid's yoga classes too I am sure)! This video is a reminder and was just posted today on our CBC.

Do you have a laptop?

I recently bought one. It's really more of a notebook and very similar to what's in the picture here. Small, lightweight and very inexpensive..

A macbook wasn't in my budget, although of course I would have loved one of those! But considering what I do on here my little Acer thingy is just fine for me, and we do have a lovely Mac desktop at home so we can still indulge while at home. I'm still not particularly computer saavy though (as you may notice by looking at my blog haha)

I was a late bloomer.
(I've even been known to call my ipod my walkman..haha..and thats no lie)!

Anyways, what I wanted to share here is that I recently found out that using a laptop uses 90% less energy then a desktop computer and I found that amazing. That is such a HUGE difference and definitely worth sharing. Knowing that, I plan on using my little laptop more, and my desktop a little less, as it sure can't hurt! Every little bit helps this beautiful world we live in .

Carbon Footprint - It's a way of measuring how much pollution is created by our activities, from driving a car to heating our homes.

Heres a little tidbit on reducing your carbon footprint

A couple of posts ago I mentioned that I picked up a little paperback book from the check out isle and how it had quite a few tips on reducing your carbon footprint that I hadn't thought of before. Just this morning while half asleep, for the very first time I was aware of how much water I was boiling for my coffee and the energy it takes to do so.

I only boiled what I needed. That may be something that most people already do, but the truth is my kettle gets filled whether I am making a cup of tea, or a pot of coffee generally. Out of habit I just fill my kettle every single morning without thinking.

From now on I plan on being more mindful of this.
The little book says that completely filling the kettle for one cup of tea releases an unnecessary 125 cups of CO2. May not seem like much of a deal but every little bit makes a difference inlightening our Carbon Footprint. I"ll keep sharing new little changes I am making on my blog. I'm of course doing all the obvious things but there is always more we can do.
Namaste.
